Will A Snowboard Fit In My Car? | Factors And Solutions

It’s a common and yet overlooked question as to whether or not your snowboard will fit inside your car. It’s a significant hurdle that many people need help trying to overcome.

Whether your snowboard will fit inside your car depends on an array of factors, including whether you have roof racks, if you have any passengers, and how large your vehicle is. Larger vehicles will have little issue, but smaller vehicles may struggle with fitting your board.

Below, we go into detail as to whether or not your snowboard will fit snugly into your car.

How Can I Fit a Snowboard in My Car?

Your snowboard should be able to fit in your car depending on whether or not you have roof racks and you have the trunk space. The bigger type of car you have, the better chance you’ll have at fitting your snowboard. If you have roof racks, you’ll have no issues fitting your board at all!

1. On The Roof

One way to bring your snowboard to the mountain is to strap it onto the roof of your car.

The safest and easiest way to do this is to use roof racks so that you’ll have something to strap the snowboard onto.

To do this, you’ll need to tightly tie the board down onto your car’s roof with cinching straps or bungee cords.

Just make sure that whatever you’re using can tightly and securely hold it in place so you’re not picking your snowboard up from the side of the highway.

If you don’t have permanently fitted roof racks, you could purchase soft racks, which work similar to rook racks but are removable and cost much less.

2. Trunk Space

Another potential method to getting your board up on the hill via car is to check if you have enough trunk space.

If you’re using a typical four-door sedan, then most likely, you won’t have the space to fit your snowboard inside the trunk.

However, if your car is of above-average size, you could potentially see whether or not it’ll fit within the confines of the trunk.

We cover specific vehicles and their ability to fit snowboards inside their trunks below.

3. Cars With Foldable Backseats

If your car’s backseats fold down to reveal your trunk, you may be able to fit your snowboard inside your car.

However, it depends heavily on your car’s specific make and model, as cars have vastly different dimensions.

4. Inside The Car Itself

Whether or not your snowboard will fit inside your car’s interior depends on how many passengers you have and whether or not you’re willing to move your seats around to fit the snowboard inside.

It also depends on the specific type of car that you have.

If you have no passengers and are only trying to fit yourself in the car, then you may be able to fit the snowboard diagonally from your passenger seat to your left rear backseat or horizontally across the back seats.

If there are other passengers in your car, it will be a tight squeeze to fit everyone and all their gear in the car.

If you’re willing to put your passenger seat down so that it’s reclined against the back seat, you should be able to fit your snowboard in your car.

You may have to roll down your passenger side window to try to fit your snowboard inside, and by doing so, you’ll have a decent shot at transporting your snowboard.

However, it’s worth checking local traffic laws to see if it’s legal, as having objects sticking out your window when driving may not be universally allowed.

How Can I Fit a Snowboard in My Truck?

You may be able to fit a snowboard in your truck depending on factors such as the size of your truck bed and whether or not you have roof racks. Provided that either your truck bed is big enough or you have roof racks, you should be able to fit your snowboard inside.

1. On The Roof

If you have roof racks, you should be able to fit your snowboard on the roof of your vehicle.

Just as you would for a car, you’ll want to strap your snowboard down using whatever you may have available, which can include bungee cords if you don’t have any other options.

2. In The Bed

Depending on the size of your bed, you may be able to lay your snowboard in your truck bed.

Make sure you do this securely, so it doesn’t fly out the back. If your snowboard is too large to fit snugly in your truck bed, you may be forced to use straps to hold it down.

Alternatively, if your truck bed has a cover, you could try to use that to hold your snowboard in, provided you don’t mind if it bounces around.

How Can I Fit a Snowboard in My SUV?

You should be able to fit your snowboard into your SUV, provided that your vehicle is large enough to accommodate different board sizes and how many passengers you have. If you have roof racks, you should have no issues fitting your snowboard onto your vehicle’s roof.

1. On The Roof

Depending on whether or not you have roof racks, you should be able to fit your snowboard onto the roof of your SUV.

As with a car or a truck, if you have roof racks and straps, you should be able to safely hold down the snowboard to the roof of your SUV.

2. Inside The SUV

Fitting a snowboard inside your SUV might be tricky, depending on how large your SUV is and how large your snowboard is.

While you could put down various seats to fit your snowboard inside your SUV if you have other passengers, this could be an issue for fitting the board.

Alternatively, you could try to put it down in the center of the car to see if it’ll balance and stay put within, and this could work with other passengers as well.

However, if your vehicle is on the small side, it likely won’t be able to fit.

If you had to, you could roll down one of your windows to have the board sticking out slightly, although you should check if this will violate any local traffic laws before considering it.
